One-Week Programs for Pre-High School Students
Looking for something engaging this summer?
Pre-HS programs are packed with hands-on activities that balance fun with high-level learning material to ignite an interest in STEM. Programs allow kids to explore new topics outside the boundaries of a typical classroom. Programs end at 3:30 pm, with the option to stay until 5 pm, as well as an opportunity to stay overnight – perfect for families seeking flexibility and a mix of summer activities.

CHEMISTRY OF COOKING

Have you ever wondered how combining a few simple ingredients such as eggs, flour, and sugar can transform into a delicious cake through the magic of an oven? Well, it’s not magic, it’s chemistry! Students learn the science behind cooking through hands-on activities in the kitchen. In the process, they learn the parallels between preparing a recipe and bringing up compounds to create a final product! Students will develop knowledge of chemistry and science that can lead them towards a career in chemistry while also developing practical skills in the kitchen.

MINI MED SCHOOL

Hey future doctor, get your stethoscope ready! Mini Med School is now in session. We’ll dive into various areas, focusing on new subject areas every day. What makes up a routine check up? How do you test a patient’s reflexes? After this, we’ll move on to more specific specialties. We’ll go from top to bottom, starting with Neuroscience. We’ll continue through the body, covering orthopedics, oncology, genetic diseases, and more. This fast-paced and hands-on program sold out last summer! Sign up today!

PET MEDICINE

Our pet med program is a fun and exciting way for students to learn what it takes to be a veterinarian. Students practice conducting annual check-ups and vaccinations of cats and dogs, as well as, how to analyze imaging from X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans.
Students learn through hands on activities and practice skills that are required to diagnose and treat injuries and illness in pets. Students have the opportunity to perform mock surgeries, set bones, and research common afflictions such as rabies, and distemper.

INTRO TO ROBOTICS

Would you enjoy taking things apart, seeing how they work and then putting them back together again? Are you curious how robots and other machines work? From voice activated, digital personal assistants like Alexa and Siri to everyday kitchen appliances, the world of robotics is everywhere on fire! Robots are becoming an integral part of our everyday life. The future is now and the field of robotics is booming!
Students may gain a first exposure to the principles of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science. Students will apply the principles they learn and design and assemble robotic vehicles and machines of their own.

UNDER THE SEA

Dive into the terrifying, enchanting, mysterious world under the sea! In this program, students will explore a variety of topics related to all things under the sea. This program is perfect for students with an interest in marine biology as well as oceanography, eco-tourism, and marine-life conservation. Through hands-on activities, students will develop an understanding of the causes of natural disasters, deep-sea creatures, the evolution of submarines, how to grow a coral reef, and more!

SCIENCE OF ILLUSION

It’s magic! Or is it? Misdirection, distraction, optical illusions, and more will all be explored in this program! Students will put on magic shows while digging into the science at play. Houdini, David Copperfield – masters of illusion. You can become one, too! Remember, the world is not always as it seems…

SCIENCE OF SPYING

Students will learn about the skills used by spies as well as the technology used to complete their mission. Through hands-on activities, students will develop an understanding of different devices used in spying such as cameras, listening devices, and GPS navigation.

YOUNG MARINE SCIENTIST

Hey young marine scientist! Are you ready to explore underwater communities and bring them to life?!From horseshoe crabs to guppies to lobsters, there will be no shortage of fun creatures to observe in this brand new program. Roll up your sleeves! We’re introducing you to the COOLEST new hobby – and potential lifelong passion!

BASEBALL STATISTICS

Going…going…gone! It’s a homerun! In this program, students learn the mathematics behind statistics used in baseball. From batting average to RBI to higher level calculations used by talent scouts, students gain knowledge in math. A trip to a Red Sox game is being planned! Gear up to sharpen your statistics skills and enjoy America’s favorite game!

STEAM

For artistic students looking to flex some new muscles, or young STEM masters looking to get their creative juices flowing, STEAM is an interdisciplinary triumph. Don’t let your student feel boxed in! Science and math can be used to create beautiful works of art. Activities may include sketching and illustration, special effect photography, and more surprising projects!

CRIME LAB

Interested in solving who-done-its? Love reading about detectives? Can’t get enough of crime-solvers on TV? Want to try your hand at fingerprinting, analysis of fibers and hairs, and casting models? Crime Lab activities draw from a variety of scientific disciplines and teach lab skills, and shhhh… kids don’t realize how much they’re learning. Perfect for kids who have outgrown kiddie camps, but still want a fast-paced variety of activities.
